Major Project Initial Idea

Welcome to my blog for major project and now I will share idea for my own project in Interior Design. For my initial idea, I would like to create natural and rustic space with soft beige colors and wooden textures, so I decided to choose Wabi-Sabi, which is a Japanese style with beauty of imperfection.

I think the Wabi Sabi rustic style is quite suitable for flat in Vietnam because Vietnam has a warm and tropical climate, which makes wooden materials very comfortable to use. Additionally, most flats in Vietnam are not very large and usually get limited natural light because they are surrounded by other tall buildings, so using bright colors and the simplicity of this style will help the space look more open and brighter. Moreover, Vietnamese people often use wooden furniture and simple materials like bamboo or stone in their house, so it is really match rusticity of Wabi Sabi style.

For me, Hanoi is a crowed place because it is capital of Vietnam, and there are always attract people to come to work. Therefore, there is little space for nature, and people often feel tired of the fast-paced life. That's why I think the Wabi-Sabi style is suitable for people living in Hanoi.

I chose this view because it creates a peaceful balance between nature and the city. The flat overlooks the lake, which brings a calm and refreshing feeling, while they can enjoy the bustle life at night through this view. For a couple with stable jobs, this combine is perfect so they can relax and enjoy their peace spaces without feeling isolated from the city. It also reflects the idea of Wabi-Sabi and harmony between humans and nature.

For customer I think this style will be suitable for a couple, who are usually calm and value emotional balance and natural beauty. They have stable jobs and prefer a comfortable and simple lifestyle. Beside that, this style offten attracts people who live in busy cities like Ho Chi Minh city or Ha Noi and want to turn their flat into peaceful retreats to relax after work.

I have started to create my concept sketch. I designed a small room in a flat with a sofa, a table, a few of chairs, and some decorations such as plants, television. I will use neutral tones for furniture and wall to make space look more rustic and warmer.

This image helps me come up with idea of simplicity and imperfection. The curved furniture and natural light make the space look calm and peaceful. I love how the designer used simple materials and natural colors to create a soft atmosphere. Even though, everything look imperfect, but I like the uneven texture and the natural shape of the tree.

In this image, it make me think about how to arrange furniture in a Wabi-Sabi style. The layout looks very natural, not too strict or perfect, but still balanced and comfortable. In this style, everything is minimalist but still create a connection between furniture. Additionally, the furniture are made from natural materials like wood, and rattan, which bring a warm and rustic feeling to the space.

I really like this picture because it give me ideas about materials I can use in Wabi-Sabi style. The rough wall surface and natural texture show the beauty of imperfection. The mix of soft light, stone, and a plant outside make sapce feel close to nature. Through this, it suggests me about using materials like wood or clay in Wabi-Sabi design.

  1. Please take more care over recording your drawings - put them up on the wall, make sure we can't see the shadow of your head!

Can you add 'click through links' for your images so we can see where you found your images.

As a first post on the project this is just about okay - however, would like to hear more about who this might be for and WHERE it might be. You say it is rustic - well rustic can mean different things in different cultures, which would result in the use of different materials, fabrics, colour palettes. For example, a rustic interior in the UK would look very different to one in..... Mexico.

Also, I would like you to think about a concept. Rustic is a good place to start, but would this be Rustic for a professional (what would they like?), Rustic for a Fisherman's Cottage (what would that need to include?). Think a bit more deeply and add some concepts to this post - the more you consider, the better your decision making will be.
