Background Research: Location, Materials, and Colors

In this task, I will research deeply about loaction, materials, and colors for my main project.

Location:

This flat is located at Kosmo Tayho NOVO Hanoi, Vietnam. I chose this location because Hanoi has a lot of flats due to the small land area but many residents. There is a lack of green areas to relax and reduce stress. Therefore, my Wabi-sabi project, which brings peaceful simplicity combined with natural, will be a suitable solution for citizens in this area.

Benefit:

The Kosmo building is near West Lake so the air is fresh, and easy to catch the wind from the lake. From here it is easy to move to the urban center and airport thanks to the major surrounding routes. Moreover, it also has many amenities for residents such as supermarkets, restaurants, cafes, gyms, and cinemas. The environment here is quiet, good security, which is suitable for living.

With the tropical climate, the use of wood is quite convenient. Although Hanoi is quite hot in summer, wooden or bamboo materials are still a safe choice for furniture. The tropical wather makes natural materials suitable because they create a warm, comfortable feeling, creating a gentle living space for people.

Material:

Regarding materials, I chose wood for floor, cabinets, tables and chairs, straw for decorations or ceiling lights, ceramic for vases, and ceramic stone for plant shelves because they are all natural and light materials. They are suitable for the Vietnamese climate because they are airy, absorb moisure well and help the space to be cooler in the hot summer. These materials also create a feeling of warmth, making the city flat look more relaxing and comfortable. In addition, using natural materials also helps reduce noise, and is environmentally friendly.

Color:

For color, I want to use beige tones to create a light feeling. Beige will help the space become more spacious. I will also the brown of wood and the green of trees to create a natural, airy feeling. I want the space in my project to show simplicity, rusticity but still cozy, comfortable and relaxing when they are put into the colors in the interior.

This is a moodboard I made to collect furniture and materials for my project.

  1. Ideally, you should split this research over more than one post, so you can focus on the different aspects you have covered here in more detail - would like to see a single post on Colour Palette in particular as this is such an essential part of any ID project that showing your inspiration (perhaps by creating a mood board) is important in terms of demonstrating this on your Design Boards.
