First Thought on the Project Themes

In the second lesson, I had to choose one of four themes for my own project. After listening the introductions of each theme, including Expressionism, Bauhaus, Mixed Media Art, and Earthly Delight, I wrote some ideas related to interior design that I could use these for my next project.

For Expressionism theme, I would focus on bright and strong colors and exaggerated shapes because these can feel intense and eye-catching. Moreover, this idea can also be inspired by cinema and dramatic visuals. In the interior space, bright colors could appear on furniture and artwork in the living room. Cool tones might work for the walls, while warm tones could be used for the interior elements. I can use natural materials such as stone and metal with rough textures and strong contrasting colors, which would help create a more expressive atmosphere.

Earthly Delights theme focuses more on natural and earthy elements. So, I would like to use soft or raw lighting to help create a calm and relaxed feeling in the space. Furthermore, some materials like rattan or straw could be used for the ceiling or some decorative parts. Neutral colors would work well for the interior because they feel simple and natural. Clay vases could be added as decoration. Wooden chairs and rattan furniture would also help make the space feel warmer and more organic.

The Bauhaus theme is mainly about simple geometric shapes and structure. Different shapes can be mixed in the space. For example, triangle shapes could appear in chairs or tables, while circles might be used in the design of a bed. Rectangular shapes could also be used in decorations. The colors might be contrasting, but earthy or neutral tones could also work. The overall design should stay simple and balanced.

Mixed Media Art combines different colors, materials, and textures in one space. In interior design, this could mean using a variety of materials for furniture and decorations. Different textures together can make the space look more interesting and creative.

Then, I decided to choose the Bauhaus theme, because this theme is the harmony of art, craft and technology to create artworks in Art and Design. I found that it is quite effective and high application in Interior Design. It uses mainly straight lines, geometric forms as well as basic colors to make the space look more outstanding.

I came up with some ideas such as using triangular decorations mixing with rectangular chairs and tables. After that, I can hang some round the ceiling to make the cozy feel in the space. For colors, I can use neutral tone like beige, wooden colors, brown to make the confortable and warm sense or use strong contrasting colors like blue combined with orange and red.

  1. I was hoping you would write your notes up into your blog post, rather than just post your notes...

There is more to using Bauhaus than you have identified here - this is very basic. The foundation of a lot of Bauhaus design was on the principles of colour theory and how they could be adapted to design that has benefits for all. It was a genuinely philanthropic and progressive movement. It seems to me that you ahvent thought about it beyond the very basic elements you saw in the presentation.

If you are going to use this movement as a starting point for your project, do some deeper research into how Bauhaus transformed interior decoration, furniture, use of colour, geometry and how this might be adapted to a project in your subject area.

Then consider which kind of space you want to apply this to. Which would it be most relevant to? An educational, library or study space? An office environment? A retail space?

Then edit this post and add your thoughts.
