Initial Research for AP1

To finish this task, I have to research some information about concept as well as artist having the same concept.

I decided to choose Bauhaus as the theme and Modern Classic style as the main concept for my apartment. In term of Bauhaus theme, it comes from the Germany art school in the 20th century. It had a profound influence on contemporary architecture and interior design. Bauhaus is often a combine of art and industry. It mainly focuses on function and reduces decoration. Furthermore, it often uses materials such as metal, glass, and wood, with basic geometric shapes.

Modern Classic is an interior design style which combines between classic and modern . It is a style that the elegance and luxury of classic interiors while keeping the simplicity of modern design. Furthermore, Modern Classic often uses a neutral colors such as white, beige, and gray, and also combined with different materials like natural wood, marble, metal, and fabrics. In addition, it has many advantages such as versatility, durability, timelessness, and suitability for a wide range of ages.

For artist research, I chose Kelly Wearstler, who is a famous American interior designer born in 1967 and her 'The Lupine' project, which is a private family residence in California. The house is very large and luxurious, and Wearstler redesigned the whole home, including the living room, kitchen, and bedrooms. She is known for her bold, modern, and artistic style, mixing colours, textures, and shapes. In Lupine, she uses many different shapes in the rooms, such as chairs with clean geometric forms and tables in circles or rectangles. Besides that, she uses neutral, like grey, stone, and natural tones as the main colors. Moreover, the furniture is placed carefully to make the room balanced and easy to use. Although she does not follow Bauhaus strictly, the way she uses the clear shapes, simple geometry, and functional design to make me feel of harmony. She also adds some textures and patterns to make the rooms look more lively and interesting.

Another project that I would like to research is Barcelona apartment by Raúl Sánchez. In this project, he created a wooden wall with 21m starting from the living room and running the length of the apartment, to minimize the space in the apartment. Behind it, he divided some rooms with different function such as the kitchen, bathroom, and storage, making the space look neat and easy to use. Moreover, he minimalised decoration to make materials stand out such as oak with its distinct grain, recycled floor tiles, and light-colored micro-cement flooring. The color palette is dark wood, light gray, and traditional tile colors, but he also uses bright tones like green or orange to highlight the interior of the space. Furthermore, the way he arranged the furniture and chose its shapes made the space look more open and tidy, which perfectly suited the Bauhaus theme.
