Floor Plan - Homebyme

This is the floor layout I created using Homebyme. First, I calculated the dimensions of the furniture in the room and the distances between walkways. Then I tried using Homebyme instead of AutoCAD, which I usually use. Initially, I was quite confused because the way it's used is quite different. However, after getting used to the operations, I found it quite easy to use. I created walls to create the rooms. Because I had to manually adjust the dimensions, it was difficult to be precise. I divided the rooms and added windows and doors.

I initially created the bedroom first because this would be the room I would be working on in 3D. I chose the furniture in my desired colors, such as blue or orange to match the Bauhaus style. However, some pieces of furniture won't match the others because I couldn't find furniture with both the shape and color I wanted. In the bathroom, I replaced the wooden floor with tile to change the space and prevent mold. In the bedroom, I changed the wooden floor to a different style to hamornize with the colors I chose for the room. Similarly, in the office and storage, I also changed the tile floor to create a balance of colors in the working room. This will also help clients feel more comfortable while working. In the other rooms, I added more furniture to define the layout. Regarding lighting, I decided to turn the entire top and right walls into glass windows to let in natural light, and I also installed curtains to block the midday sun.

I will try to make the 3D model as similar to my floor layout as possible, but I will change the colors and styles of some of the furniture to match the Bauhaus theme.

Because this is a duplex apartment, I used a rectangular layout to easily develop the functions and design. I had already created a bubble diagram before, so I could easily present the functions and design on the floor layout. Besides that, I had already planned the interior arrangement. First, I wanted to expand the living room and kitchen, so I placed the entrance area in the middle. Additionally, I have a system of glass windows extending from the dining room to the study, so placing the living room here allows for plenty of natural light, as the living room is both a gathering place and a reception area, so it needs plenty of light. For the bathrooms, the two bathrooms are located in the same space for easier plumbing installation, convenience, and cost savings. The bedroom and study need more space, so they will have similar dimensions. Importantly, these two rooms also require a lot of natural light, so I placed them in positions with long glass windows. Furthermore, these are two rooms that require quietness, so putting them in the same place will help reduce noise when people are going about their daily activities in the apartment.

  1. Did you do some practise sketches first to plan the space or just make it up as you went along?

The 3D model is going to be a physical model, this is what was agreed in your Sign Off tutorial in Week 3.
