Further research into the materials

Regarding the materials I will use in this project, I will choose a variety of materials based on the furniture I might use. Since I'm working on this project with a Bauhaus theme, I can use furniture specifically designed for the Bauhaus.

First, according to Leatherhub (2022), the Wassily chair is made from cowhide leather, which is a product of the food industry, thus saving resources. This type of leather is highly durable. Additionally, it's easy to clean becausse it doesn't easily attract dust or liquids. However, it's a more expensive material than other fabrics, and because it's leather, it can crack with prolonged use or be torn by pet claws.

Since I'm aiming for Bauhaus theme furniture, I chose this chair. However, the price is quite high, so I will prioritize using it in my bedroom and working room.

I would prefer using chrome-plated tubular steel. As Thonet (2019) this is a very popular material in furniture design. It's quite lightweight, weighing around 5.5 kg. It has a bright color and reflective surface, which can create the modern feel of a space. Additionally, it's removable and replaceable if it gets damaged or worn out.

However, Sam (2026) pointed out that it's quite prone to scratches, and because it's reflective, scratches are easily visible, from this will reduce the aesthetic appeal of the furniture. Furthermore, if the chrome plating is scratched or chipped, the underlying steel can oxidize and rust, especially in humid environments.

Next, the carpet material will be polypropylene. Nash and Stacey (2025) mentioned that this material is made from many different synthetic fibers, so it is waterproof and moisture proof. It is very suitable for using in many spaces, especially rooms with wooden floors. And it is a fact that this is one of the cheapest types of carpet compared to natural fibers like wool.

However, according to 360ss.com (2021) polypropylene is not durable like nylon or wool, so its longevity is not high. Furthermore, it is easily damaged by heat, so I will put it in far heat sources such as fireplaces or stoves. And, importantly, because it is a petroleum-based material, the carpet may initially off-gas and emit volatile organic compounds. Moreover, it is made from many synthetic fibers, it is less soft than natural materials.

Besides that, I could use the carpet made from wool. According to British Wool (2024), this is one of the materials with natural elasticity, so it can recover from compression and maintain its shape for a long time. Additionally, wool is a renewable resource, therefore it is very environmentally friendly. Besides that, wool fibers can help improve air quality in space because they are resistant to dust, mold, and dust mites. A fun fact is that wool carpets can reduce noise between rooms and floors due to their dense fiber structure.

Regarding drawbacks, Elham Kumail (2024) claimed that wool is quite more expensive than synthetic carpets like polypropylene or nylon. Additionally, it can also retain water, which makes it unsuitable for wet areas like bathrooms or basements. Furthermore, prolonged exposure to strong sunlight can cause the carpet's color to fade over time.

For wood, according to Bamboofloringchina (2024), I would prefer using Wood and Beyond's Engineered European Oak. This type of oak is constructed with multiple layers, including a core layer of plywood or HDF layered diagonally and a surface layer of genuine European oak veneer. This helps conserve wood resources and is highly durable. The wood ranges in color from light yellow to amber brown. Additionally, the flooring is less prone to warping or shrinking with temperature changes.

However, as Factory Direct Flooring (2025) mentioned that the drawbacks of Engineered European Oak are that it is only water-resistant, not waterproof. Additionally, heavy objects or pet claws can scratch the surface. Furthermore, this type of wood is more expensive than others, which may make it less accessible to a wider range of customers.

For my Barcelona apartment, I will use it in the living room, kitchen, and bedroom to minimize the drawbacks of wood. Additionally, the wood's color can fade with excessive exposure to strong sunlight, so I will use multiple curtains to reduce the impact of sunlight on the wood floors.

For ceramic tiles, I would use Grey Matt Carving R10 30x30 and 60x60 Porcelain Tile. Graystone Ceramic (2024) states that matte surfaces can create higher friction, thus helping users reduce the risk of slipping and falling when moving around the house, especially in the bathroom. Furthermore, they are very hard and resistant to abrasion, so they have high durability.

However, Neelson Tiles (2023) pointed out that because it has a slightly rough surface and easily attracts dust, they are more difficult to clean than glossy tiles. Furthermore, matte tiles maybe not reflect light, so this material can make the room look darker if the room lacks natural light.

I will use 30x30 tiles for the bathroom and 60x60 tiles for the client's working room to create harmony and soften the warm colors in the space.

  1. So if I was your client and you told me that you were going to use metal and leather, I would want to know what kinds of metal and leather and how much it would cost to make because that would effect how much I would have to spend on the project. Be specific about the materials, otherwise this is very weak research.

The citations are poor as are your references, this is in your marking criteria and will effect your mark if you submit your research posts like this. I suggest you look at some of the materials used by the Bauhaus designers and how you could use similar and try to find more academic sources instead of using google.
