Project Development: Specific location
After attending the tutorial with my tutor, I searched for a specific location for my project. I decided to choose a building in Barcelona, located on the corner of Carrer de SepĂșlveda. This building has an area of around 837 square metres. Because I chose to design for an appartment, this building will be a suitable place to get natural light and good acccessibility.
Firstly, I would like to mention the weather in Barcelona. It has a Mediterranean climate, characterized by hot summers and mild, not too cold winters (Visitspain.info, 2025). It's an ideal place to live and relax. For this apartment project, my client requested sufficient natural light for working, good ventilation from outside to cool the rooms, and effective control over the summer heat. Therefore, I chose a corner building with two facades, allowing for easily access to natural light and ventilation through the installation of large windows on both sides. Besides that, I can also use dark curtains to reduce the heat in the summer, and combine with air conditioning to improve effectively.
Second is transportation. The Carrer de SepĂșlveda area is located in the Eixample district, the center of Barcelona, and therefore has a very well-developed public transportation system (Locabarcelona, 2024). It is connected by metro, bus, road, and bicycle paths. This well-developed public transport and road network is very helpful for residents, which will help my client easy to access social amenities while living here.
Finally, the Eixample area is one of Barcelona's most fully planned districts, with a stable urban infrastructure. Furthermore, this place have been investigated in pedestrian and bicycle paths to improve the quality of life for residents as well as green space to reduce environmental air pollution caused by private vehicles (Republic Space, 2025). This area is ideal for couples who combine work and creativity, offering both relaxation and a creative space.
