Welcome post - AP2
In last term, I have completed my AP1, which includes both strengths and weaknesses in my work. I would like to improve my blogs, 2D, as well as have a specific initial ideas, which helps me develop my concept and my ideas obviously.
First, I drew a shadow form. I was quite confused about what to do with it. Since the shapes of the shadows are based on the shapes of objects, I had no specific idea of how to draw using this form.
The second idea came from the curve form. Initially, I thought I would make the ceiling light in a spiral shape because the theater ceiling is quite high, so I could create spiral-shaped lights. Therefore, I sketched the basic shape of the light. However, after exchanging ideas with my friend, and she drew a top-down view of the light, I developed the idea in a different way. I developed it based on her drawing and came up with two other ideas. First, I could develop it into a bar. Outside would be curved tables of varying sizes to create a unique design. Next I would put a small partition, followed by a bar counter. I would need to adjust the dimensions after taking actual measurements because I would need to accommodate additional equipment and cabinets for the bar behind it. The second idea was curved seating. Similarly, the outdoor seating would be of different sizes, smaller for children and larger for adults. The black brick section in the middle would house planters, followed by a long bench and a round table in the center. However, the drawback of this idea is that the actual space is quite small, making it hard to combine all the seating.
Thirdly, the idea is based on the form overlap. I used the basic shape of two blocks overlapping to create the tabletop. Then I added table legs. I also developed it in two different ways. One way is to make a chair with a small table attached to the side. This would be convenient for small spaces. Alternatively, I tried another idea, which is a chair with multiple layers overlapping. It is like a ladder, but requires a larger space to implement this concept.
In the term 3, I would like to learn more about how to explore and improve the spatial plan. Moreover, I also want to learn how to make websites more professional so they can attract more viewers. Additionally, I want to create small models to improve my 3D modeling skills.
What I'm most looking forward to this semester is working on projects in different spaces and with various concepts. I hope I can improve on many weaknesses from my previous term's projects to create more professional and creative works.
During the holiday, I took a family trip to Dorset. We went for 3 days and 2 nights and enjoyed the trip together. This is a picture of my whole family wearing traditional Vietnamese ao dai. Because it's a Vietnamese tradition, we always wear ao dai when we go out together. It embodies a simple, understated yet elegant beauty. I can use this simplicity and material to create interior designs for my projects.
Additionally, we visited Duddle Door, one of Dorset's famous tourist areas. We went there to admire the scenery and take photos, immersing ourselves in nature to relax and relieve stress after days of school and work. This also helped my family bond more. For me, I think relaxing together in nature can bring people closer, so I always try to incorporate natural spaces into my work. It helps to relax and refresh the living space.
Next, I was given a task and formed my initial ideas. My task was to redesign the interior of the Curve Theatre in Leicester. I drew up five interior design ideas and different furniture layouts based on various prompt styles.
Next is the zig-zag form. I based it on the basic zig-zag shape, then added parallel lines to create the seats. And then, I developed this idea in terms of furniture arrangement. I would use a zig-zag partition, perhaps made of wooden columns or potted plants, and then two rows of seats facing each other. This would help increase the seating area for theatergoers.
Finally, there's the slash form. I based it on the basic shape of a slash and used it as a support leg. Next is a horizontal rectangle to serve as the tabletop. And to support the tabletop, I added a small slash underneath. I can place this table near a window, or use it as a display table for a bar or cafe.

Would like to hear more about your brief and your reactions to it - edit this please.
ReplyDeleteThis first task seems to have worked well enough - you have several ideas that could clearly be adapted to work in the space you have been directed to redesign. The important thing is you show us how you are doing this in follow up posts (remember its important to work more independently as this is how you will be working on your undergraduate).
