Practical Research: Colour Palette

Regarding color, I wanted to use monochrome with red tones to create depth in the space.

As an example below, this is a bedroom in a house in Vancouver, Canada. It was designed by Ben Leavitt for a mother and daughter. As you can see, he used a deep blue as the main color for the room. According to Vogue (2022), he also combined it with an emerald green Kravet on the headboard to create a subtle and harmonious color scheme. He also used red for the seating. For the curtains, he chose a lighter blue, but still in the same tone. Notably, he also used white for the table and blanket to create highlight and balance the space. Additionally, he placed a painting with red details to create a outstanding point, making the room stand out.

For my project, I will still retain the red color of the theater, as it is the traditional color of Curve Theatre. However, because my concept is Minimalism, I will tone down the red instead of its original vibrant red. I found Spikey Red. It's quite deep but still conveys modernity and elegance, which is one of the elements of the Minimalism concept. I will use it for the walls in the areas I redesign.

To create more depth in the space, I will use a monochromatic approach. I have found a monochrome color palette ranging from red to gray. I can use the middle colors for the furniture I will use. For example, I can keep the floor gray, the last color in this palette, while the tables and chairs will be in the middle colors to create depth. I will use this color palette for the Green Room Cafe and the Mezzanine. These areas are often the first place guests are greeted, as they are located near the entrance and are where people relax. Additionally, they have large glass windows, so I want to use a monochromatic palette that transitions from red to lighter or lighter shades. It maintains a simple, modern, minimalist feel while keeping the colors bright in the space.

On the other hand, at the Stage Door Bar, I can still use Spikey Red as the main color. Then, I will choose darker shades, transitioning from red to black. Because the bar needs a sufficiently dark space and combined with lighting to create a luxurious and modern feel. Therefore, I will use Spikey Red for the walls and black for the floor. However, I can't use pure black because it would make the space too dark and make people struggle to move, so I might choose a middle ground color. For example, I can use the color #210000. It is still quite dark, but when combined with lighting, it can create depth for the bar while still easily helping people to see the walkway. With the furniture, I will also use colors in the middle ground.

I will use blue color, as shown below, for decorations or lighting. Because these are two contrasting colors, when they are placed next to each other, they will highlight each other and increase contrast. Therefore, I will use it to highlight the red in areas.
