Practical Research: Demographics
I will research and analyze Demographics in Leicester as well as the number of guests at Curve Theatre to understand the number of people who will use the furniture I redesign.
According to Curve Theatre (2025), the theatre attracted over 265,000 people to watch performances from April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025. This show that there is a very high number of people visit here each year. People can gather and enjoy drinks at the Green Room Cafe and Stage Door Bar after performances. Additionally, Curve Theatre (2025) also mentioned that 27,500 people participated in Curve Theatre's activities. This included students, families, community support groups, and local artists because Curve Theatre collaborated with universities, colleges, artists, and the community to develop their campaigns. Therefore, the relaxation and entertainment areas will require a large space and many seating to serve this high volume of visitors. They can have drinks, sit and chat, or take a break after engaging in activities in the theatre. It is clear that this will be the main group of customers, and they will use the spaces that I will have to redesign.
Furthermore, Leicester is one of the largest and oldest cities in the UK. It is also a multicultural city, with many people coming from different countries, who are living and working there. As shown in the table below, Leicester's population in 2026 is estimated at around 397,500. Therefore, some tourist destinations like the Curve Theatre will always attract a large number of local and international visitors each year.
In addition, I also researched the age groups of men and women living in Leicester. Clearly, the 18-45 age range has the highest population, both male and female. This is the age group that is starting or has already started their careers. People aged 18 to 30 are adventurous, enjoy exploring, traveling, and experiencing new things. Furthermore, this age group still has a lot of energy, so they can frequently participate in experiential activities at tourist destinations. Next, the 31-45 age group has achieved success in their careers and they will tends to enjoy leisure activities, travel, and watching musicals or concerts for entertainment and relaxation after work. Besides that, this is also the age group that may have families, so they often take their children and family out to watch performances, not only to strengthen family bonds but also to educate their children about history and culture of destinations. Therefore, the number of visitors to Curve Theatre will be quite large.
