Collarch is an architectural studio based in Prague, Czech Republic. According to Domus (2019) Collarch works in architecture and interior design, with projects focusing on the renovation and reorganization of contemporary living spaces. The studio is presented as a group of architects working with existing spaces, paying particular attention to the existing structure and the handling of materials in interior design.
One of their famous project is Minimalist Apartment, which is located in Prague in 2018. They want to renovated an apartment in an old Prague building to create a quiet and neutral space for the young family to live in, where they could live according to their current needs and preferences. According to Domus (2019), the design team removed substandard materials and non-load-bearing partitions to expose the apartment's original structure. They kept the building's existing concrete ceiling, leaving it exposed. And then, this has given the space a simple and natural feel.
Domus mentioned that the project as a combination of materials, in which Collarch retained the original concrete and placed it alongside new materials. Furthermore, they reduced details to simplify the space and highlight the characteristics of each material instead of concealing them. As a result, this apartment has a limited color palette, making it look so simple with features smooth surfaces, and has minimal detail.
Furthermore, according to Archello (2018), they used products from Egger (wood panels), Bosch (kitchen appliances), Jika and Laufen (bathroom fixtures), and Polyrey (kitchen countertops) to suit the apartment's conditions and the client's needs.
For my project, I want to learn how they use materials and combine them to highlight each other. I could choose ceramic tiles or leave the concrete floor as is. For furniture, I would use wood for partitions and tables. For low benches, I can use concrete to match the floor material or wood to create a warm sense. Additionally, for high chairs, I will prioritize high-quality plastics like polypropylene or polycarbonate. This would match with the concept that I chose, maintain the natural feel of the material, as well as be environmentally friendly.
At the end of this post, state that you are going to follow up with research into the materials you would use for this concept project - the links you make at the end are not in any great depth and if you can demonstrate how you are thinking and your ideas are joined together, that would be better.
