Target market and suitability

After analyzing the demographics, I identified three different customer groups for the Curve Theatre.

First, there is the group of customers who come to watch musicals at the Curve Theatre. They will vary in age, but mostly between 18 and 45, and live in the UK, particularly Leicester. They would be the theatre's primary customers, so they might arrive before the performance starts and need drinks or seats. They might also want to sit and enjoy drinks or music after the performance. Therefore, this will be the theatre's main customer. To meet their needs, I will use low benches, which clients can sit and have coffee and chat in the Green Room Cafe. Additionally, I will add small square cushions. Each cushion will be a seat for guests, which can help them relax and feel more comfortable. In the Stage Door Bar area, I will design tiered seating, so clients can sit and watch live music on the small stage next to it. And it can serve more people without using too much space. I also placed high stools at the bar, as I wanted to give customers the feeling of being in a real bar and enjoying drinks and music. Next, on the Mezzanine area, I will design curved, wave-like seating, and I will put it in the middle of the Mezzanine walkway. To allow customers to see both outside and the activities below, I will combine two sections of seating and separate them with a partition with some potted plants. Because of the large number of customers, these potted plants will help to cool the area and make people feel more relaxed.

The second group of customers consists of those participating in theatre activities, such as students, local artists, or the supporting community. They will be of varying ages and live in the UK. This group primarily comes to join in activities, so they will need rest and refreshments afterward. This means they will mainly use the services in the Green Room Cafe and Mezzanine. I will put tables with four chairs near the entrances in the Green Room Cafe so they can sit in groups and chat. Additionally, I will place those tables away from the cafe counter area because this will help reduce noise for other groups, allowing them to talk more comfortably when they come with larger groups. Next, in the Mezzanine, I will also put a few vending machines. I have noticed that students tend to buy drinks or snacks from vending machines. Therefore, I will add them on the right hand wall to give people more space to buy and relax. Furthermore, the seating in the Mezzanine will have lower sections for children or students. They can be able to easily sit down and rest without needing adult assistance.

The final client group consists of employees at the Curve Theatre. They will be 18 years old or older and live in the UK. Normally, the employees will have their own rooms for work and practice. However, they can also use the Mezzanine area for practice because it will be quieter than other entertainment areas. Additionally, I will design high tables and chairs in the Green Room Cafe. It will have partitions in the middle to make sure everyone can concentrate on their work. Besides that, I will make the tables slightly longer so they can put their laptops and also have drinks and food on them. I want high tables and chairs because when they work, they will not get back pain from bending over or leg fatigue from sitting low.

  1. This post needs some sources, Katie, you have clearly looked at some research elements, please include them with citations. Your student voice disappears somewhat in the first half of the second paragraph.

Otherwise you have reflected on the research and applied it to your design ideas. Remember you should include a board on this in your portfolio, but you will need to support it with some evidence.
