Production Process
In the final weeks, I continued working on the 3D physical model for my project.
First, I went to a store in the city center to buy model trees, small wooden sticks, and large wooden sticks like a picture below. I wanted to use them to make the partitions between the seats and the railings for the Mezzanine. The wooden sticks only cost me 1 pound for each, but the model trees cost me 10 . It was quite expensive, but very useful.
Next, I attached small wooden sticks to the curved chair to make partitions. I used a glue gun to stick them together because PVA wouldn't stick. It was also quite easy to do. However, because the chair sections I cut weren't all the same length, when I attached the sticks, they weren't even and couldn't stand straight.
Then, I used the tree model to attach it directly to the wooden planks. I also used a glue gun to attach it. With the tree model, I could separate the leaves into smaller pieces to stick to the partition; it was quite simple to do.
In the next step, I took some large wooden sticks and cut them into three equal parts with scissors. I used the curved ends to make the railings for the mazzanine. I then used a glue gun to stick them together. While working, they kept falling apart because I wanted them to be curved like real ones, but if they were too curved, they wouldn't stick together properly. Also, I cut them unevenly, and many pieces were misaligned, so they couldn't fit together perfectly.
Then, I attached it directly to the large piece of cardboard I bought at a store in the city center. I bought A1 foam board because if I bought A2 foam board, it wouldn't be wide enough for the curve. Therefore, I chose the A1 foam board and cut it to the size that I want. Additionally, I cut a small piece of cardboard for the wall and rectangular pieces for the columns and window bars for the glass window. I used a glue gun to stick them together.
Finally, I used acetate for the glass and cut wooden strips for the floor. With the acetate, because the glass panes were quite long, I had to cut them into many pieces. And when I glued them back together with a glue gun, it left a rather unsightly glue mark. As for the wooden sticks, I attached them to the floor to highlight the model. Because both the exterior and interior floors were white, it was quite difficult to distinguish them, and the interior model didn't stand out much.
Overall, I didn't have too much difficulty to make this model. However, I'm not satisfied with the glass windows because they don't look very nice and clean. I also haven't figured out another way to improve them. Nevertheless, it's pretty good overall, and I did use a variety of materials and clearly showed my designs through 3d physical model.
